How to fit your reg plates
Fitting your new number plates may seem tricky, but it’s actually quite simple. Follow these easy steps:
Read the following
-
Step 1: Remove the Old Plates
Your current plates may be attached with screws, sticky pads, or both. To remove plates secured with screws, use a Phillips (+) screwdriver to unscrew them. If the plates are still stuck, or if there are no screws, sticky pads are holding them in place. For stubborn sticky pads, use isopropyl alcohol to gently loosen the adhesive by applying it behind the plate. -
Step 2: Prepare Your New Plates
For the most secure installation, we recommend using screws as the main method of fixing your new plates. Sticky pads can be used in addition, especially if your plate needs to bend to fit the vehicle’s surface. If your old plates were screwed on, use the old plate as a template. Place it on the back of your new plate and mark where the holes need to be. If your old plates were stuck on, make sure the area where the new plates will go is thoroughly cleaned. A clean surface is essential for the sticky pads to adhere properly. If you plan to use only sticky pads (not recommended), position the pads evenly across the back of the plate, focusing on the sides and centre. Be aware that plates secured solely with sticky pads may come loose, especially in cold weather. -
Step 3: Install Your New Plates
For screws: Secure your new plates to your car using the existing screws, or the screws provided if you’ve ordered them from us. For sticky pads: Ensure the surface is completely clean and dry before applying the pads. Stick the plate firmly in place, applying consistent pressure. You may need to apply heat (such as using a hairdryer) to help the adhesive set properly. For any further assistance, feel free to reach out to us!
